How to Program OpenKey Universal Modules (Version 3)
Tools
- OpenKey Programmer application (ANDROID ONLY)
- OpenKey Programmer credentials (provided by OpenKey)
NOTE: To install OpenKey Programmer, you must enable Downloads from Unknown Sources (instructions may vary slightly depending on Android model).
- Go to Menu >> Settings >> Security
- Scroll until you see an option for "Unknown Sources" and turn this on to allow downloading apps from sources outside the Play Store.
- Access the APK file, download it, and open it on your device.
Launch the OpenKey Programmer App and verify that Bluetooth is on and permissions are granted in the app.
Log in with the property credentials provided by OpenKey.
If you run into any error screens, please check your internet, Bluetooth, and location services to clear the error:
Once any errors are cleared, you will land on the list of rooms. You will notice a toggle switch that is labeled "Detect Modules In Range." You can leave this toggle in the off position. Selecting the room from the list below will automatically activate the module detection.
"MANAGE" means the module is already programmed.
"INSTALL" means the module is not programmed yet.
Select the room you wish to program and click the "Install" button. This will scan and pull in all the available modules. If multiple modules are available, these will show in order of dB (decibel) and will be a negative number. The closest module to you should show at the top of the screen.
The app will then assign the module to this room.
Click BACK TO THE ROOMS LIST and find the room number you just assigned. Tap MANAGE.
This will bring you to the module information page. After the module connects to the programming app, the details will be accessible.
If a new version of the firmware is available, an UPDATE button will appear next to the firmware version. Click UPDATE to complete this process. Note, that it is important to make sure the firmware is up-to-date on all modules, we do suggest periodically checking the modules with the programmer app to make sure the firmware is on the latest version.
Click BACK TO THE ROOMS LIST and find the room number on which you just updated firmware. Tap MANAGE.
This will bring you to the module information page. After the module connects to the programming app, the details will be accessible.
Click SYNC CLOCK and update the drive time (the time at which current/electricity is provided to the motor). This time will vary based on the type of locks and the voltage pulled by the motor. You may need to try different drive times to verify what the best MS time should be for your locks.
Drive time should be the lowest ms possible to still allow the motor to drive. Normal drive time is between 150ms and 250ms.
After you make the necessary changes, click SAVE UPDATES.
After saving, you can scroll down further to see an option to test opening the door. Tap OPEN while in range of the module.
When finished, click the back arrow at the top-left of the screen and repeat with each additional room until all modules are programmed.
If there are still issues with the module not responding to the mobile key, please try deleting the module by clicking Delete Module at the bottom of the screen and then re-add the module by using the programming steps above.
